What is Covered by the NHS?
If you are registered with The Blackheath Standard Surgery, some travel vaccinations are available free of charge. A decision about which ones you need depends on which countries you will be visiting, how you are travelling, and how long you will be staying there. The nurses will help make this decision. Vaccinations that are covered by the NHS are:
- Hepatitis A
- Hepatitis B (in some cases)
- Meningitis ACWY
What is not Covered by the NHS?
Many injections recommended for travel to more exotic locations are not covered by the NHS, and these have a charge. The charge will depend on the cost of the injection and whether a certificate is required. If the nurses recommend you to have any of the following vaccinations, these will be ordered in within 2 days, and an appointment will be made for you to be given these by the practice nurses in The Blackheath Standard Surgery. You will be required to pay for the injection before it is given. Charges are as follows:
- Rabies £45 per dose (A course of 3 injections)
- Hepatitis B £90 per course of 3, or £30 per dose
- Meningitis ACWY £10 for certificate
- Yellow Fever £55 per dose inc booklet
